Modern Invoice Template
Bordered sections, structured cards, clear information hierarchy.
The Modern template organizes every piece of invoice data into clearly bordered card sections. At the top, structured metadata cards display the invoice number, issue date, and due date in a neat row. The sender and client addresses sit in their own bordered containers below.
Line items are presented in a clean bordered table with subtle header styling. At the bottom, payment details and notes split into a dual-card layout, side by side. Every section has a visible boundary. Nothing floats or bleeds into the next block.
Best for
- Digital agencies managing multiple client accounts
- SaaS companies billing on subscription or usage
- Professional services firms that send invoices alongside proposals
- Anyone who values clear section separation over decorative design
What makes it different
Where the Minimal template uses whitespace to create separation, the Modern template uses borders. Every logical group of information sits inside its own box with a 1px border and consistent padding. The effect is modular, like a dashboard rather than a letter.
The metadata cards at the top are the signature element. Invoice number, dates, and status each get their own small card, making it easy for the recipient to find key details at a glance. This is especially useful when invoices get forwarded to accounts payable teams who need to extract data quickly.
The dual-card footer puts payment instructions and notes side by side. Bank details on the left, project notes on the right. No scrolling required.
How to use this template
- Open invoice. Now and choose "Modern" from the template selector.
- Enter your company information. It fills the top-left card automatically.

Frequently asked questions
Do the borders show up in the PDF?
Yes. The exported PDF keeps the Modern template's bordered card structure, with minor typography differences from the browser preview. The borders print well in both color and grayscale.
Can I use this for recurring invoices?
The Modern template works well for recurring billing. The metadata cards make it easy for recipients to distinguish between invoices by date and number. Your data is saved locally, so you can update amounts and re-export each period.
How does this compare to the Agency template?
The Modern template uses thin, uniform borders around cards. The Agency template uses thick banded dividers and heavier visual weight. Modern feels like a dashboard. Agency feels like a presentation deck.
Is this template suitable for small invoices?
Yes. Even with just one or two line items, the bordered structure keeps the layout from looking sparse. The cards provide enough visual anchoring regardless of content volume.
