Brutalist Invoice Template

Heavy borders. Grid frame. No compromise.

The Brutalist template strips the invoice down to its structural skeleton and then makes that skeleton visible. Everything is set in JetBrains Mono, a monospace font designed for code editors but used here for its mechanical rhythm and even character spacing. Borders are 2px throughout, double the weight of most templates, creating a rigid grid that frames every section of the document.

The layout uses a full grid frame with a distinct left/right split in the header area. The total row inverts to a solid black background with white text, creating a hard anchor point at the bottom of the line item table. There is nothing soft about this template. Every line, every edge, every border is deliberate and heavy.

Best for

What makes it different

Most invoice templates try to disappear. They use thin borders, light greys, and generous whitespace to make the document feel effortless. The Brutalist template does the opposite. It asserts the grid. The 2px borders are not just dividers; they are the design. They define a rigid frame that gives every piece of content a precise location within the layout.

The left/right split in the header section places sender and recipient information side by side within the grid frame, like columns in an architectural drawing. This is not a loose two-column layout. The grid lines run edge to edge, connecting the header sections to the line item table below in a single structural system.

The inverted total row is the template's signature. When you reach the bottom of the invoice, the total due snaps to a solid black bar with white type. It is impossible to miss. The inversion creates a visual full stop that closes the document with authority.

Frequently asked questions

Is JetBrains Mono included automatically?

invoice. Now loads JetBrains Mono for the browser preview, so you do not need to install it on your system. In the PDF export, the layout switches to a compatible monospace PDF font to preserve the same overall feel.

Will the heavy borders use a lot of printer ink?

The 2px borders are heavier than typical templates but still represent minimal ink usage compared to filled backgrounds. The inverted total row does use more toner. For ink-conscious printing, the Vintage template uses lighter, warmer borders.

Can this template look professional in corporate settings?

The Brutalist template reads as intentional and design-aware. In creative industries, it signals confidence. In traditional corporate settings, it may stand out more than intended. Know your audience. For a more restrained approach with similar monospace typography, consider the Tech template.

How does the grid frame layout differ from other templates?

Most templates use borders only to separate line items. The Brutalist template wraps the entire invoice in a continuous border frame. Header sections, metadata, line items, and the total all exist within a single connected grid. No other template in invoice. Now uses this full-frame approach.
